TEACHING PRACTICE IN SCHOOL AND COLLEGES: PROBLEMS AND PROSPECT IN NIGERIA

Abstract

Abstract In professions like law, medicine, teaching, etc provisions are made for trainees to undergo apprenticeship or internship programme. Teaching practice which is an essential component of teacher training that is intended to expose teacher trainee to the reality of the process of teaching. A complete teacher training is therefore supposed to include teaching practice in its content. This paper discusses the concept and the prospects of teaching practice as well as problems faced by student teachers and their supervisors during teaching practice exercise. Some of the problems are accommodation, inadequate teaching facilities, overpopulated classes and insecurity. This paper recommends the provision of adequate teaching facilities in schools and need to create stimulating environment that will make teachers also more creative.
